Welcome to Hawthorn Solar

Economic Development for Delaware County, Indiana

Hawthorn Solar is a proposed 75 MW solar project located in Delaware County, IN. The project will consist of interconnected solar panels fixed directly on top of existing farmland. Narenco has been working with the community, township, county, and state to permit this project since 2019. The Project will encompass approximately 520 acres of agricultural land, which can be returned to farming after 40 years. Construction of the facility is expected to begin within the next 2 years  and will take about 12 months.

Solar power is one of the most cost-effective sources of electricity, and new installations help reduce electricity costs for all consumers. In addition to the jobs directly and indirectly created during construction and operation of Hawthorn Solar, this project also creates opportunities for companies with renewable energy goals and large energy demand to expand into the area and open new locations adjacent to renewable power.

The Project Premises are located in an agricultural area with pockets of residences nearby. The portions of the project which may otherwise be visible to neighboring landowners or along public roads will be screened with a native vegetation buffer that is acceptable to the County Zoning advisors.

The Project will consist of solar photovoltaic panels and will not use any fuel, any appreciable amount of water, and it will not generate air pollution, water pollution, or hazardous waste. The equipment comprising the project will have very few moving parts and will make almost no sound.

With only minimal disturbance of topsoil, the project will require very few changes to the surface and will productively utilize existing agricultural fields. Energy from the project will be injected into the local electric grid; local services will benefit from an influx of tax dollars, create well-paying temporary and permanent jobs, and diversify income sources for local families.
